a dyke

wearing a shirt mocking a body
that looks more like mine than it does in my head
wearing this shirt
with the print of a curvy bikini’d frame is a protest
a way to claim
this is NOT my body
this is just a shirt
a costume
when i dance on stage
i don’t mind my ass to shake or my silhouette to curve
but can I put on a mustache?
and button my collared shirt with that same body?

on a see-saw
always shifting back and forth and sometimes passing through
suspended in the air where no feet touch the ground
and everyone is flying
Madi Weber (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist who feels most like themself when their hands, feet, and imagination are in many pots. Madi is a poet, a flameworker, a glass jewelry maker, and a draglesque performer. They have been writing poetry since they were eight years old and have only recently begun publishing their work which explores the ordinary, the extraordinary, and the heart-breaking parts of growing up as genderqueer in a dysfunctional family steaming with denial. The extension of Madi that is performed on stage is known as Mx. Mommy Issues, a drag thing and burlesque brat, who bends beyond the binary and unravels stories that meditate on similar themes to their poetry.
